My First Lure Show

So, I ventured out into the world of Arts and Craft shows on 09/12/2018. I decided to go to want I deemed as the mecca of Arts and Crafts..Branson Missouri. Being from the Midwest I am sure my scope is narrow but I thought it to be the best place to start.

I planned to have may first show sometime in 2018. I made this goal from the day I opened this business (October 2017). I had to get out there and let people see my art. It is what I would think, the goal of every artist, to share their creation. The fishing lure is a tiny canvas to work from. It is also very functional and utilitarian.

I have been a fisher girl since my Father introduced me to a fishing pole. He was not the most enthusiastic fisherman but his step-father insisted that he know something of the sport. My Father infused me with the spirit of the outdoors and I took it from there. I spent a great deal of time in the outdoors when I was growing up and was often comforted by the sound of song birds, squirrels, and the sound of leaves that crackled under my feet.  I truly love to sound of the earth when it is uncluttered by the noise we make.

Getting back to my first show. I had made more lures then I could count over a years time and  believed that I was ready to have a show of my lures (without running out on the first day of business). My partner and my sister were so eager to help. They stood by my side in the booth that we had reserved and cheered me on all the way.  As artists go as a group, we tend to be anxious about reviews of our work.  So, having their support was a tremendous blessing.

As we went into our first day of the show. People started walking by the booths and taking a look at what was on display. I was approached by several people that thought my lures were just for display and not for actual use. I thought that there are many reasons a person might buy a fishing lure and that it might not be just for fishing. Folks that are more utilitarian will surely disagree with my thought. But that's okay. Indeed, I made each and every lure to be fished and appreciated. In fact, one woman who purchased five lures, took them home to decorate her home.

As the show went on I met some amazing people. So, many were willing to share their thoughts and ideas that I found myself taking notes.  The show was a success and we sold a number of lures. It is my deeps hope that those lures are out there doing their job. Whether it be catching fish or being admired by their owners.

Until next time! Tight Lines!! Cheri
